OpenVault is seeking a new member for its Engineering team based either virtually or at the Jersey City, NJ, USA headquarters located directly across the Hudson River from New York City. The individual selected will directly shape the portfolio and product life cycle of OpenVault’s broadband solutions by working to engineer new and support existing database systems and applications. The individual will work closely with existing engineering, operations and management members to ensure solution alignment with OpenVault’s strategic vision and objectives.The Database / Systems Engineer will work to optimize existing and develop new data driven processes and tools, aligned to both the existing solution portfolio and future product roadmaps.To be successful in this role, the Database / Systems Engineer will need to fuse their in-depth understanding of data driven systems and applications with OpenVault’s broadband portfolio which encompasses network optimization, revenue generation, and customer engagement solutions.ResponsibilitiesIdentify opportunities for improved performance in SQL operations and implementationsPerform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issuesGive design recommendations for database functions that meet business operating standards while improving the efficiency of business processesProvision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurationsEnsure performance, security, and availability of databasesPrepare documentation and specificationsHandle common database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessaryCollaborate with other team members and stakeholdersSkills and QualificationsStrong proficiency in MySQL database managementExperience with recent versions of MySQLUnderstanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAMExperience with replication configuration in MySQLKnowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQLProficient in writing and optimizing SQL statementsKnowledge of MySQL features, such as its event schedulerAbility to plan resource requirements from high-level specificationsFamiliarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDBProficient understanding of code versioning tools such as GitHub and SVNExperience with big data architectures and ecosystem components such as KafkaExperience with real-time streaming analytics applicationsExperience developing and managing data in the petabyte-scaleExperience with Redshift or large scale (clustered) systemsExperience working in a Linux environmentExperience with high availability and dynamic scalability deploymentsExperience with RDS/AuroraExperience with ELK or OpenSearch platforms a plusIndustry Knowledge of DOCSIS, IPDR, CMTS and Optical technology a plusUnderstanding of cloud services such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud a plus
