Job Summary

This is an in-house position for an experienced attorney with five to seven years of experience handling general health care, commercial contracting, risk mitigation, business, regulatory, and transactional matters. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel will work collaboratively and respectfully across departments to anticipate, identify, and manage Hendrick Health’s legal issues. The Assistant General Counsel will be instrumental in keeping day-to-day operations and transactions moving quickly while protecting Hendrick Health.

Job Requirements

Minimum EducationJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership

Minimum Work ExperienceAttorney with 5-7 years of relevant experience with commercial transactions in a law firm or in-house legal department

Required Licenses/CertificationsRequired Skills, Knowledge, and AbilitiesExperience with commercial transactions in the healthcare industry preferredExperience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including service agreements, vendor agreements, statements of work, and business associate agreements in the healthcare spaceProvide rapid, practical, business-oriented legal/commercial contract advice directly to business teamsSupport business teams in negotiating price, deliverables, services scope, warranty, and other commercial termsHandle ad-hoc projects across a spectrum of complex business, legal, and strategic issuesKnowledge of healthcare fraud and abuse laws, rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry codes, including the federal Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act preferredAble to quickly understand the business' needs, work effectively with business teams and other members of our department to craft solutions, and efficiently deliver resultsExcellent communication, drafting, and negotiation skillsInnovative, adaptable, and creative, with the appetite to challenge assumptions and working practices constructivelyDemonstrated ability to work efficiently, learn quickly, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and adjust to frequent changeA resilient individual, who can operate independently, effectively counsel internal clients by providing clear and concise advice, and work for long-term, sustainable changeExcellent analytical and critical thinking skillsCapable of building positive relationships within Hendrick Health, including welcoming others and taking opportunities to help others to achieve their objectivesAn excellent listener with a high degree of curiosity and appetite for learningHighly responsive and service-oriented with superior legal and business judgment and a practical approach to problem-solving
