Purpose of Ministry
The Director of Christian Formation will collaborate with the congregation and staff to build a vital educational ministry. The Director will inspire all to learn, grow, and be formed in the Reformed Theology of the Presbyterian Church, and fulfill the mission statement of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General
Oversee and develop our family ministries, focusing on increasing children and youth participation
Support the Christian Education Commitee in recruiting members, preparing budget and plans, and involving them in educational ministry
Serve on the SSPC Day School board; oversee and support the Director of the Day School
Recruit volunteers for educational and youth activities such as teachers and chaperones
Ensure that classrooms, displays, and postings are appropriate to their purpose and maintained
Oversee the Nursery and Childcare staff on Sunday mornings
Children and Youth Ministries
To Develop, implement, and annually review a graduated, age-appropriate curriculum to teach elements of the Bible and Reformed belief through children, youth, and adult classes to Evaluate and coordinate educational and youth activities such as Youth Sunday, Vacation Bible School, etc. and initiate creative new activities to involve all generations/family members
To Work with the Pastor to integrate children and youth ministries into all phases of church life, especially in worship, to create an intentionally intergenerational culture
Develop and lead fellowship activities for children and youth, and lead Confirmation classes
Plan and implement annual summer mission trips for SSPC youth with adult chaperones
Optimize the use of technology and social media to further the educational ministry of St. Stephen Community Outreach
Seek opportunities to engage the Fort Worth community in spiritually-inspired educational and social
activities that implement St. Stephen’s mission and values
Establish creative programs to engage TCU students and provide for their spiritually-related needs
Collaborate with local churches and Brite Divinity School to advance St. Stephen’s educational ministry
Actively represent the mission and values of St. Stephen to the larger Fort Worth community
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ who lives and communicates it daily
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
Is patient, compassionate, flexible, collaborative, professional, open-minded, with a sense of humor
Stays current in Christian Education through continuing education and participating in CE events
Holds a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
Has 1-3 years experience in formative/educational ministry
