Research Scientist and Director needed to join this integrated health care system that provides care and service to people living in an eight county region covering 5,600 square miles in Central New York. The organization includes five corporately affiliated hospitals, as well as skilled nursing facilities, community and school- based health centers, and health partners in related fields.

Research Scientists are involved in a range of projects to address the health problems of the largely rural population of central New York. The research institute also supports clinicians, residents and medical students in academic, intellectual and clinical research endeavors.

This is vibrant and sophisticated upstate community set in a bucolic lake front village affording four seasons of cultural and outdoor activity. An unparalleled and well-appointed community sport center.

Responsibilities:The organization provides a strong research infrastructure for its research scientists in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, IRB review, OSP administration, and patient recruitment for clinical trials. Currently embarking on an innovative mental health research path, with the goal of improving access, quality, equity and value of mental health services in our rural area.

Job Qualifications:- The successful candidate should possess a medical degree (MD) or PhD, with a minimum of 10 years of independent research experience with both historical and current federal or private funding of research projects as a Principal Investigator in clinical, mental health and/or public health research. We particularly encourage applicants with experience in addressing rural health disparities, rural health care services, and the social determinants of health.- The candidate should have substantial experience on study sections in order to understand how grant proposals are evaluated and how the grant system works.- The candidate should have demonstrated ability to build effective collaborations and collaborate productively with local agencies, state or regional entities and academic partners. S/he should have demonstrated ability and interest in effectively mentoring younger colleagues and strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.- The selected candidate is expected to have a track record in conducting research in partnership with underserved populations i.e. rural and/or economically disadvantaged communities.- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and experience using Microsoft Office software (including Excel) is required. Experience with SAS, GIS software and mapping techniques is desirable.
