Our comprehensive Thoracic Oncology group consists of top ranked specialists representing an all-comprehensive interdisciplinary team with unique expertise. Our thoracic surgeons perform the highest volume of thoracic robotic and minimally invasive cases in AZ (and the Mayo system). Working together, we have enjoyed a close working relationship in pioneering patient care and patient clinical trial enrollment. Our team works with the full spectrum of advanced technologies including Proton Beam Radiation therapy, an on-site cyclotron for synthesis of novel radiopharmaceuticals, and GMP facilities for manufacture of cellular therapies.
Cancer care at Mayo Clinic is managed collaboratively across the Arizona, Florida, and Minnesota campuses therefore the applicant will have access to the combined resources of the entire Mayo Clinic Enterprise Network. This includes over 200 oncologists and hematologists, CORE research facilities, pathology, clinical records, and over 2000 faculty involved in cancer care. Additionally, the thoracic Cancer Program members are active participants in the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology and the NCI Experimental Therapeutics-Clinical Trials Network (ET-CTN). Clinical trials are conducted in collaboration with Industry partners, the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology and the NCI Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (UM1).
Additionally, Mayo Clinic has a strategic and robust relationship with Arizona State University (ASU). ASU has its headquarters located in Tempe, Arizona, and is now the largest university in the United States. It has been designated by US World and News as the most innovative university in the nation for eight years in a row. Mayo Clinic and ASU formalized their relationship in 2016 under the rubric of the Mayo Clinic and ASU Alliance for Healthcare. We have multiple areas of interaction, including research, education, innovation, and administration. Four focal areas of interest include Human Performance and Biomedical Research, Digital Connectivity, Workforce of the Future (Education), and Medical Technology. ASU built a research building in proximity to Mayo Clinic hospital, the Health Futures Center. In collaboration with ASU, we are building a biotechnology corridor called Discovery Oasis. Owning over 250 acres of land adjacent to our hospital secures strategically the future of Mayo Clinic. Individuals of Mayo Clinic can hold adjunct appointments at ASU, and in some circumstances can have students as part of the research team.
Over the next four years, Mayo Clinic is making significant investments in both the physical and technological future of health care, through doubling the size of the Mayo Clinic campus in Phoenix, inclusive of practice, education, and research activities. Mayo Clinic's campuses in Arizona are located in Phoenix and Scottsdale, in the beautiful Sonoran Desert.
