Job Description / Essential Elements:

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESA. Subject and Management Area1. Remediates communicative disorders preschool through twelfth grade2. a. Surveys school populations for the purpose of identifying students handicapped by speech, hearing or language disabilitiesb. Diagnoses communicative handicapsc. Selects caseload and proper placement in therapy classesd. Plans and develops individualized therapeutic procedures for correcting or minimizing communicative disabilitiese. Assesses and refers students for other special education placementf. Appraises parents or appropriate school personnel or the need for medical evaluationin accordance with District policyg. Evaluates individual programs as well as student progressB. Relationships1. Motivates students according to their individual social and educational needs.2. Interprets to classroom teachers and other school personnel the special needs of speech, hearing and language handicapped students and reports periodically on the progress of each individual3. Counsels parents in the management of their child's problem and reports periodicallyon the child's progress4. Cooperates with the Speech, Hearing and Language staff in all department matters andcontributes to planning for program improvement5. Coordinates programming and scheduling of special classes for speech, hearing andlanguage handicapped children and participates in related community programs when possible6. Cooperates with other community agencies or institutions providing services for handicapped children and participates in related community programs when possible.C. Professional Attitude, Responsibilities and Participation1. Keeps required state attendance register and makes periodic reports as directed2. Participates in and contributes to in-service meetings3. Further professional growth continuing education and attending professional workshops and conferences4. Participates in professional state and national association or agency activities relating to the fields ofspeech pathology and audiology5. Adapts to change or innovation6. Abides by the codes of ethics of the District and professional associations

Requirements / Qualifications

Appropriate California Speech and Language Pathologist Services Credential Required (completion of Clinical Fellowship or CF can be accomplished with this position)
