SPEECH/LANGUAGE SPECIALIST
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Special Education and the administrator at each assigned site, provide assessment and instruction in the areas of speech production, articulation, fluency, voice, receptive and expressive language. These services are provided to students identified as having special education needs.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assess students referred for possible speech/language impairments and adhere to state and district criteria for eligibility.
2. Process preliminary formal "Referral Form", expedite "Permission to Assess", administer appropriate battery of tests, write reports with eligibility determination and recommendation, and schedule an Individual Educational Progrma meeting to review assessment.
3. Chair the IEP meeting, write IEP goals and objectives for Speech and Language Services if appropriate.
4. Develop schedule at each school site for students identified as speech/language impaired.
5. Review progress and needs of each student benchmarking at time of report card period and with annual IEP. Conduct a complete triennial re-evaluation as is required for all identified special education students receiving Speech and Language services.
6. Prepare and maintain all written reports and records as required.
7. Collaborate with other district professionals, family, and community concerning needs of the students.
8. Participate in meetings as scheduled or required, e.g., school site, district, monthly special education meetings, and county (SELPA), and student study team (SST).
9. Provide direct instruction using appropriate methods and material to meet each student's individual needs.
10. Participate in IEP's for students referred to complete psychoeducational and language evaluations.
11. Promote effective public relations.
12. Consult with school staff regarding speech/language students.
Requirements / Qualifications
Valid CA Clinical and Rehabilitative Services Credential with Language, Speech and Hearing (LSH) authorization or Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential. AAC/AT specialist preferred but not required.
