Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology seeks an incumbent to serve as the Medical Director of the Cardiology Program at VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital providing clinical care and oversight of the cardiology providers who rotate through for specialty coverage, strategic growth planning, collaboration with hospital departments to assure strong continuity of care for cardiac patients.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | To support teaching directly via interactions with Fellows, Housestaff and non-physician professionals. Periodically will be expected to present appropriate reviews in patient management discussions at Cardiology and Department of Internal Medicine conferences. In addition, will be expected to participate in University Continuing Medical Education programs for practicing physicians which is important to enhancing patient referrals.
Research | To support clinical research protocols as needed.
Service | Will be expected to participate in quality, safety and efficiency initiatives.Will serve in the Cardiology Medical Director capacity. Will also serve as a liaison to the health system Cardiology service line to contribute to health system goals at the local level. Will be responsible for provider scheduling for the clinic and hospital coverage.
Clinical | Will primarily be dedicated to the outpatient, inpatient and consultative clinical services. Will collaborate across hospital departments to include Primary Care, Hospitalists, ED and Imaging. Will also collaborate with VCUMC and CMH Cardiology providers to set and implement appropriate standards of practice related to cardiac care.
Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.) | Submit billing and document care as required by the organization. Abide by all medical staff requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Board certified/board eligible cardiologist with demonstrated skills in cardiovascular diseaseClinically oriented and possess sufficient research and teaching experience to be eligible for academic appointmentMust be able to communicate effectively and work with a large multidisciplinary programWill be expected to participate in teaching and fellowship programsMust be eligible for medical licensure in state of VirginiaDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
