SUMMARY: The Hospice Physician has responsibility for the medical direction of the care and treatment of patients and their families rendered by HSI in collaboration and consultation with the patient's primary care physician. This includes maintaining quality standards in the healthcare provided to HSI patients. The Hospice Physician provides education to community physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding the benefits of HSI programs and services while consistently demonstrating the Hospice Savannah values.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

License to practice medicine in the state of Georgia, Board Certification in a medical specialty dealing with end of life care, i.e. Internal Medicine, Oncology or Family Practice. Member in good standing on the medical staff of an accredited hospital within the community. Experience in the care of terminally ill patients as defined by: five or more years experience in a medical specialty dealing with terminally ill patients; demonstrated experience in the principles of pain and symptom management. Ability to work successfully within an interdisciplinary team (including volunteers) toward positive outcomes for patients and their families. Ability to represent HSI within the physician community as well as general public with excellent communication and presentation skills. Confidentiality is a requirement of the position. Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires extensive patient interaction, which may occasionally require the ability to ambulate or move a patient, either assisted or unassisted, utilizing proper lifting techniques. Additionally, there is a moderate risk of exposure to infectious diseases, which may require special safety precautions

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Daily visits/rounds to Hospice House patients, participating in on-call schedule, providing Hospice Physician services for home care patients including home visits.
