Mission or Goal of Unit:

Pursue the research, clinical, and education missionsof the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, andPalliative Care. Through bench research,clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, ourscientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing andcontrolling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physiciansand scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside asquickly and safely as possible. Throughour training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists andphysicians to further advance science and practice.

Chief Purpose of this position:

The VCU School of Medicine Division of Hematology, Oncology andPalliative Care and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center are seeking an Oncologist - Clinical& Translational Investigator with a focus in Hematologic Malignancies topractice at our flagship and satellite locations. This position will have a role in developing theHematologic Malignancy Research Program at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. Thisposition will also have a role in advancing the clinical research mission and willbe expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Massey ComprehensiveCancer Center.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the laband while in the clinic. Expected toactively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows.

Research | This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovativeclinical trials in hematologic malignancies to the Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter and the region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships. This position will be expected to establishextramural partnerships with the ultimate goal of offering the most innovativedrugs in hematologic malignancies to patients at the Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter before they are standard of care. This position will be expectedto develop, initiate, and manage investigator-initiated trials in collaborationwith the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center's laboratory investigators. Youwill be expected to participate in Massey's Clinical Trial Training Program,write 2 IITs by year 3 and year 4, and apply for a career development award byyear 4. Efforts to obtain funding foryour research in areas of focus consistent with the mission of the School ofMedicine, Department, and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center must bedemonstrated. In addition, reasonablescholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetingsand participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected as wellas active participation as a scientific member of the Massey Comprehensive CancerCenter

Service | It is expected that the person inthis position will be active in decreasing Health Disparities in the communityserved by Massey/VCU.

Clinical | Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/orsees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on hematologic malignancies.

Required Qualifications:Board certified or eligible in medical oncology or hematologyEligible for Virginia licensureEvidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g. - publications, trial PI) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic careerDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
