Creating a Better Quality of Life at One of the Best Places in the U.S. to Live! The Community - Johnson City, Tennessee Voted one of the best cities to live in the United States in 2018, Johnson City has things to appreciate being alive for in abundance. Located in East Tennessee, Johnson City calls to the pioneer within to explore the best this city has to offer, all while surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. Here, history lives close to the surface. The construction of a railroad line from Bristol to Knoxville put Johnson City on the map in the mid-1800s. Entrepreneur Henry Johnson established a store and depot called Blue Plum, where steam engines took on water and passengers. Today, the historic downtown remains an epicenter for arts and entertainment with the Hands On! Regional Museum for kids and the shops, galleries and restaurants of Blue Plum Village. Quillen VA Medical Center was recently recognized by a national publication as a Top Hospital, earning the award for accomplishing recognition for the following criteria: communication between nurses and doctors as well as responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness of the facility and hospital care within itself. This assessment of the hospital is based on the SMC HCAPS survey which is a survey related to patient perception of their experience of care in a hospital and so it genuinely comes directly from the veterans, making this award all the more meaningful.
