Job Description

POSITION TITLE :

ELECTRICIAN II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION : The Richmond County Schools' Electrician II, under the authority of the director of maintenance, is responsible for performing installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

NATURE OF WORK

:

Employee will perform a moderate to large variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work requires the interpretation of prepared sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Work assignments are performed in accordance with accepted practices. Employees will resolve most problems independently, except for work of an unusual nature, in which a supervisor may be consulted. Employee will receive limited supervision.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :Test malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment.Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment.Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit.Draws wire through conduit and completes necessary splicing, soldering, and application of friction tape.Installs and connects equipment to wiring systems.Replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.Replaces faulty electrical components.Perform other duties as assigned.Subject to service calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in electrical installation and maintenance repair work.Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to perform electrical work.Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment.Ability to understand and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches or pencil drawings.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma and at least 2 years previous experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures is required. A valid drivers' license is required. Ideal candidate should hold an electrician's license based on State requirements by the North Carolina Board of Electrical Examiners or a valid School Maintenance Electrician Certification issued by the North Carolina Department of Insurance. If a license/certification is not currently held, applicant must be willing to attend necessary training to sit for either exam within 36 months of employment.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

:

Full-time, 12 months
