NEEDED: NURSE PRACTITIONER

LOCATION:

808 Union Street, San Diego, CA 92101

SCHEDULE:

30 hrs per week, Monday-Friday, 5 days per week, 6 hrs per day, 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

U.S. Citizen

Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of California.

Providing verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education).

Must have 1 year family medicine experience or 1 year of urgent care experience.

DUTIES:

Shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate population.

Conduct medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests, x-ray and other diagnostic testing.

Diagnosis and treat patients in an efficient, timely, and professional manner, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications utilizing the Bureau of Prisons formulary.

Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing

Attending medical emergencies.

Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy.

Emergency consultation to be performed by the NP in instances deemed necessary.

Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits.

Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating, and revising program plans.

Assists in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of the health care services.

Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.

Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations

Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician

Responsible for receiving patients and explaining procedures to alleviate undue anxiety, submitting reports and evaluations as requested.
