Position Type: Maintenance/Facilities - Electrician Journeyman Date Posted: 4/12/2024 Location: BPS - Maintenance Date Available: 05/01/2024 Facilities - Electrician Position Function Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, to perform maintenance, repair and renovation work in school buildings and facilities, including all electrical fixtures, and to perform related duties and general maintenance work as assigned. Essential Functions Plans layout, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures and apparatus. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blue prints to ensure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels. Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components Observes functioning of equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement, and either makes necessary repairs or makes recommendations for repairs. Maintains records for the purpose of documenting electrical maintenance work and repairs. Studies building plans, blue prints, diagrams, or drawings to determine equipment, tools, and materials required. Moves equipment, materials, supplies, furniture and fixtures as needed to perform work. Establishes written estimates of time and material costs needed to complete projects. Inspects equipment and facilities, and recommends repair or replacement action to supervisor. Orders materials as needed for the purpose of ensuring adequate supplies and materials, as well as the efficient operation of the school district's electrical systems. Equipment Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including testing instruments such as ohmmeter, voltage and amperage meters. Safety Requirements Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of electrical work. Travel Requirements Frequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance, methods and procedures in the electrician trade. Knowledge of building code conformance standards for electricity, electrical installation, and repair. Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure. Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed. Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and resolve electrical or electricity issues. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Exposure to electrical currents, high voltage. Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Qualification Profile Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: Completion of vocational technical school program in electrical trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship program in the electrical trade Successful experience at the journeyman level of the electrical trade. License or Certificate Motor Vehicle Operator's license. State licensing for electrical E-1 Master license required. FLSA Status: Non-exempt
