Job Overview

This is the journey level classification in the Police Dispatcher series and is responsible for handling the full range of emergency and non-emergency communications. This classification is distinguished from the Police Dispatcher I (Trainee) classification in that the latter is an entry-level trainee classification.

The Police Department is looking for experienced Dispatchers who want to make a direct impact to the community of El Cajon, to join their Communications Center team.

The Recruitment Process:

This is a continuous recruitment with first review of applications on July 5, 2023. The most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process which includes a Criticall Exam. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list for employment consideration for at least six months.

Police Dispatcher II Qualification Guidelines

Education:

Educational achievement equivalent to graduation from high school. College level course work in radio communications or law enforcement is desirable.

Experience:

At least one year experience in emergency service communications work which includes radio use.

Special Requirements

:

Ability to satisfactorily complete the Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified Basic Dispatcher Course within twelve months of employment.

Complete 24 hours of POST required continuing professional training biennially.
