HP089 Senior Outreach Coordinator

We are seeking a Senior Outreach Coordinator to support the Heliophysics Education Activation Team (HEAT) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. HEAT is committed to enhancing Heliophysics literacy and broadening public understanding of NASA's Heliophysics research. The team works closely with NASA scientists and missions to develop and deliver educational content and experiences that engage learners of all ages across the nation. HEAT aims to make Heliophysics-the study of the Sun and its interactions with Earth, other planets, and the space environment-accessible to diverse audiences. This is achieved through innovative educational materials, resources, and public engagement initiatives.

Duties:

Collaborate with the HEAT Principal Investigator (PI) to interpret and integrate requirements from NASA Headquarters and the Heliophysics Science Division (Code 670) into actionable project plans.

Lead and manage HEAT staff, fostering effective communication and collaboration among team members.

Develop, propose, and implement strategic plans for grants and projects to support the program's goals.

Oversee the day-to-day operations of HEAT to ensure efficient and smooth execution of activities.

Prepare and compile monthly and annual status reports to track progress and outcomes.

Respond to requests from the PI for additional reporting and communication needs.

Coordinate with national partners, including museums, youth organizations, educators, and science communicators, to promote Heliophysics education and outreach initiatives.

Represent NASA Heliophysics at national conferences and workshops, sharing knowledge and experiences with the broader scientific and educational communities.

Required Experience:

A minimum of two years of experience working with MS Office, SharePoint, and Google Docs.

At least three years of experience in the fields of education and public outreach.

Familiarity with NASA policies and procedures is highly desirable.

Proven writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.

Strong organizational and task management skills.

Education:

Bachelor's or Associate Degree in physical sciences, education, or related fields.

Additional Information/Requirements:

Position requires local residency in the DC-Maryland-Virginia area.

Hybrid work options are available.

Position is initially funded for one year, with extension contingent upon excellent performance and renewed funding.

US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with residency in the US for the past 3 years is required.
