Background Information:

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a software development engineer in test (SDET) to be based on site at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (Point Mugu, CA). This SDET will work with a fast-paced team of mission-focused engineers to solve some of the Navy’s toughest challenges. Initiative, creative, reliable, and efficient teamwork will be required to successfully deliver innovative solutions in this dynamic customer space.

Overview:

IDT seeks to add a software development engineer in test (SDET) responsible for the creation of automated test frameworks, design, and implementation of test cases, and writing code to improve the overall testability of software. The primary role of the SDET is to build high-quality, innovative, and fully performing automated test and supporting test software applied to complex software systems. The SDET will be working with various Aviation customers directly on site at NAWCWD Point Mugu to gather user requirements, defining system functionality, and writing code in various languages, like Java, Python, and JavaScript. You will work with other software engineers, systems engineers, integration engineers, and subject matter experts to deliver robust technical solutions.

Responsibilities Include:

Design and implement automated testing processes and tools for software productsUtilize automated software testing tools such as Automated Test & Re-Test (ATRT), TestComplete, Cypress, etc.Understand and interact with complex DoD software systemsWork with small cross-site teams of software and/or systems engineers and customersCollaborate with team members to peer-review architecture design, system requirements, and implemented code.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering with a preference for experience in software testingBachelor’s Degree in applicable discipline such as software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cyber security, mathematics, or aeronautical engineering

Required Skills:

Familiarity with the software development and test processAbility to design, develop, and analyze software test automationAbility to understand and interact with complex DoD software systemsAbility to model/code/test algorithms in JavaScript, Python, or JavaProficiency with version control software like Bitbucket, Git, or SVN and version control workflows that support development of complex software projectsAbility to perform many concurrent assignments and determine the need for changing prioritiesAbility to travel approximately 5% of the time

Preferred Skills:

Experience working with commercial or military aviation systemsExperience working with commercial or military mission planning systems (e.g., JMPS, NOMS, TMPC)Experience working with military aviation-based weaponsExperience with virtualization and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker etc.Experience with developing software test toolsExperience with testing frameworks including unit testing and interface testing

Pay Range* : $85,500 - $139,650 or $102,600 - $179,550

Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
