Milliman's Indianapolis Health practice is seeking an experienced

Full Stack Engineer

with a deep expertise in data visualization, software product design, and comprehensive full-cycle application development to join our Data Engineering, Architecture, and Science (IDEAS) team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in migrating from legacy platforms and developing advanced solutions using a wide array of programming languages and cloud technologies.Responsibilities

As part of the IDEAS team at Milliman, the Full Stack Engineer will have a critical role in both maintaining and advancing our data visualization and software development initiatives. This position requires a high level of expertise in a range of technologies, methodologies, and frameworks, ensuring seamless integration and optimal functionality across our systems. Below are enhanced and specific responsibilities aligned with the IDEAS team’s needs:Advanced Data Visualization and Dashboard Enhancement:Utilize RShiny and other leading-edge visualization frameworks to enhance and optimize existing dashboards, providing interactive and insightful data representations tailored to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Continuously innovate and improve dashboard functionalities to meet evolving business needs, ensuring scalability and adaptability of visualization tools.

Full Stack Software Development:Develop and maintain scalable, secure web applications using a broad spectrum of front-end technologies including React, Angular, VueJS, React Native, HTML5, Bootstrap, or CSS3.Apply comprehensive knowledge of modern development frameworks and practices to create responsive, aesthetically pleasing, and intuitive user interfaces.Utilize advanced prototyping tools for designing and refining software products, transforming high-fidelity designs into functional prototypes that serve as proofs of concept (POCs).Lead the conversion of interactive demonstrations into fully operational Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), incorporating stakeholder feedback to align end products with strategic objectives and user requirements.

Cloud and Container Technology Proficiency:Leverage major cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS to host applications, manage data storage, and enhance scalability.Implement containerization and microservices architectures using Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, or Azure Container Service, ensuring high efficiency and consistency across development, staging, and production environments.

Database and API Integration Expertise:Design, develop, and manage robust APIs that facilitate seamless data exchange between front-end and back-end systems, enhancing application functionality and user experience.Administer complex database systems including Databricks, MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, effectively leveraging Databricks for advanced data analytics and integration into various platforms.

Performance Optimization:Implement best practices in coding, database management, and system architecture to optimize application performance across both front-end and back-end components.Proactively monitor and analyze application metrics to identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to enhance speed, efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.

Qualifications

Advanced Proficiency in Programming Languages and Frameworks:Expert-level skills in RShiny for interactive data visualizations and dashboards.Extensive programming experience in Python or NodeJS for backend development.High proficiency in front-end development using React Native, ASP.NET, .NET, or similar client-side scripting with any of the JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 or Bootstrap.Deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks and libraries such as React, Angular, and VueJS, capable of crafting responsive and dynamic user interfaces.

Cloud Platform Expertise:Extensive experience in deploying, managing, and optimizing applications on major cloud platforms, including Azure and AWS.Proficient in utilizing cloud orchestration and automation tools such as Azure DevOps, effectively managing CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments.

Database Management and Data Integration:Strong experience in database design, management, and operations using Databricks, MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.Demonstrated ability to integrate complex data sources into cohesive and efficient systems using Databricks for advanced data analytics and processing capabilities.

Containerization and Microservices Architecture:Proven capability in designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.Experience with microservices architectures and container orchestration platforms, which may include Dapr, Amazon ECS, and Azure Container Service, ensuring high availability, scalability, and resilience of applications.

Comprehensive Software Development Skills:A robust understanding of software development methodologies, with a strong background in Agile and Scrum frameworks.Experience in full lifecycle software development, from conception and design through development, testing, deployment, and support.

Required

Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.10+ years of relevant experience in full-stack development, with substantial expertise in data visualization, software product design, and cloud technologies.The Team

As a member of the Indy Data Engineering, Architecture, and Science (IDEAS) team, you will provide analytical support services to our key state clients and their dedicated core teams, under the mentorship of senior data consultants. Our data team works cross-functionally with professionals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds including: actuarial, policy, finance, pharmacy, and data management - working together with the common goal of best serving our clients’ needs. The person hired for this role will work in a dynamic, hybrid environment, with 2 to 3 days per week of on-site work required in our Indianapolis office on a weekly basis.Benefits
