The Boilermaker will assemble, analyze defects in, and repair boilers, boiler tubes, pressure vessels, tanks and vats in the field according to blueprint specifications. JobDuties and Responsibilities:•Engages in the direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces.•Inspects and repairs boiler fittings, such as safety valves, regulators, automatic-control mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines. •Examines boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects, such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections, so that they can be repaired.•Bolts or arcs welds pressure vessel structures and parts together. •Inspects assembled vessels or individual components, such as tubes, fittings, valves, controls, or auxiliary mechanisms, to locate any defects.•Repairs or replaces defective pressure vessel parts, such as safety valves or regulators, using torches, jacks, caulking hammers, power saws, threading dies, welding equipment, or metalworking machinery.•Attaches rigging and signal crane or hoist operators to lift heavy frame and plate sections or other parts into place. •Lays out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal and locates and marks bending and cutting lines. •Installs manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feedwater connections in drums of water tube boilers. •Studies blueprints to determine locations, relationships, or dimensions of parts.•Straightens or reshapes bent pressure vessel plates or structure parts. •Shapes seams, joints, or irregular edges of pressure vessel sections or structural parts to attain specified fit of parts.•Positions, aligns, and secures structural parts or related assemblies to boiler frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels. •Shapes or fabricates parts, such as stacks, uptakes, or chutes, to adapt pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping to premises.•Installs refractory bricks or other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.•Cleans and assembles large vessels in an on-site fabrication shop prior to installation to ensure proper fit.•Other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience:High school diploma or equivalent and 1-4 years of experience in the trade. Competencies:•Knowledge of boiler repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques. •Ability to communicate with internal team and customers. •Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. •Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material. •Ability to perform mathematical calculations Ability to diagnose and resolve problems. •Ability to use hand and power tools. Physical Demands:Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including electronic and diagnostic tools, recovery equipment, and various other plumbing equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires:? stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work. Work Environment:This job operates primarily alone and travels to different work sites each day. May work in tight spaces, typically indoors, but may work outside in poor weather conditions. Vehicles are used as the base of operations.
