Position Summary:
Seeking a VP of Estimating to join the team at our corporate headquarters located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The VP of estimating will provide leadership, management, and team development within the estimating department. This hands-on role includes leading robust client interaction, strategic project identification, developing highly collaborative business partnerships, and ensuring the submittal of high-quality estimates and proposals.
Responsibilities/Functions:
Identify and develop bid-winning strategies.
Identify and manage risks and opportunities during the bid stage.
Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of project specifications and a comprehensive understanding of construction means and methods.
Provide high level analysis of cash flow, equipment utilization and equipment buy/sell transactions.
Oversee all estimating activities for Bid Build and Alternative Delivery Estimates.
Collaborate with various teams to incorporate their contributions into estimates and reviews, produce accurate bid schedules, and communicate winning strategies.
Develop and approve design deliverables.
Provide estimating details to the Concessions team for P3 projects.
Coordinate estimates with joint venture partners.
Manage the pipeline of future projects and coordinate updates.
Manage surety interactions, including reviewing and submitting bid bond requests to the surety.
Review insurance requirements and discuss with executive team.
Maintain and track bid history.
Promote the education and growth of the estimating team and advance technology within the department.
Manage standard process and procedures for estimating and hand over to the operations team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
15+ years of preconstruction experience in highway/heavy civil projects.
Strong leadership, proven track record managing projects over $100 million, and innovation in the industry.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Thorough knowledge of building systems, modern estimating techniques, and market pricing.
Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Integrity, professionalism, and ability to act decisively in stressful situations.
Effective team leadership, development, and motivation.
Thorough knowledge of building systems, current market pricing, and practical application of modern quantification and estimating techniques from conceptual and schematic design through final budgets.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HCSS Heavy Bid.
Adaptability to changing situations.
