OverviewWorking under the direction of the Ultrasound Manager/Supervisor and Ultrasound Clinical Director, the Ultrasound technologist is responsible for performing all technical procedures within Ultrasound as described in the DFCI Imaging Policy Manual. All Ultrasound technologist positions include the responsibility of the delivery of safe and effective imaging procedures, participation in departmental education programs, participation in organizational and departmental goals and priorities and active involvement in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities. Each Ultrasound technologist position requires a close working relationship with Imaging professional, nursing, and technical staff, as well as with providers, investigators, and their staff. The Ultrasound technologist will work to create and sustain a culture that fosters excellence, impact, and discovery of innovative and novel approaches towards the eradication of cancer and related diseases.ResponsibilitiesAdheres to established departmental policies and procedures; fosters communication and collaboration among the clinical, technical and support staff; ensures that business and patient information is properly handled according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines.Maintains and ensures patient, staff and environmental safety; maintains proper infection control; maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the workplace and self;Ensures that all appropriate regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements are met, and participates in departmental and institutional quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) programs.Communicates relevant information in a compassionate and professional manner to patients undergoing procedures, ensures that all patients have a thorough understanding of the procedures to be performed, assist with various operational duties such as monitoring patient flow while utilizing the scheduling and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.Under the direction of the Ultrasound Manager/Supervisor, the Ultrasound technologist performs all technical procedures within their respective modality obtaining high-quality patient scans; is involved with and performs all technical protocol duties as required for departmental research; performs ultrasound exams as directed by protocol under the supervision of the radiologist; ensures that all imaging systems operate at levels of accepted standards and are properly maintained, and if necessary takes corrective action; performs required quality control on all imaging equipment and devices; performs computer acquisitions and analysis as required; manages imaging datasets (e.g., transfer, archive, and retrieval); maintains all necessary records and reports in a correct, timely, and efficient manner.Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.QualificationsMust be a graduate of an accredited ultrasonography programTwo years hospital-based experience preferredCurrent ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration and/or current ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration and/or current ARRT Radiography and Sonography registration (RT-R/S) registration and/or current ARRT Radiography and Vascular Sonography (RT-R/VS) registrationPreferred additional current RDMS abdomen sub-specialty registration (RDMS-AB)Preferred additional current RDMS OB/GYN sub-specialty registration (RDMS-OB)Current BLS certification or must obtain an active BLS certification within 90-days of hireKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills to effectively work with peers, leadership, faculty, and various teams.Knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft OutlookStrong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with peers, leadership, and external contacts.Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and be detail-oriented.Excellent ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through.Be able to work independently and/or with a team in a fast-paced environment.Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload.
