How You Will Achieve It The Principal Scientist is tasked with leading characterization activities for pharmaceutical drug substances, intermediates and drug products, creation of methods and authoring sections of regulatory submissions. This role supports multidisciplinary project teams, working with colleagues to define and execute particle characterization activities for drug substances or intermediates, in line with project timelines. The position involves conducting physical characterizations of pharmaceutically relevant powders, including assessments of particle size and shape. Responsibilities include developing and implementing sophisticated analytical methods to characterize particles in pharmaceutical products. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in particle analysis, outstanding problem-solving abilities, and a dedication to innovation and lifelong learning. The role will also encompass collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and safety, employing state-of-the-art technology for data analysis and interpretation, and conducting experiments to identify and address potential issues. The role requires regular monitoring and maintenance of particle analysis equipment, staying abreast of industry developments to integrate new analytical techniques, and effectively communicating findings to the team, stakeholders, and upper management. Additionally, the Principal Scientist will train and guide junior scientists in particle analysis methods, ensure adherence to regulatory standards, participate in R&D to enhance analytical techniques, contribute to validation protocol development, and collaborate with external entities for support and expertise. The role also involves assisting in the resolution of technical challenges related to particle analysis. Qualifications Must-Have Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with over three years of R&D experience, a M.S. with 9 years, or B.S. with over 10 years of experience.
Expertise in particle characterization, including particle size analysis for pharmaceutical substances and products.
An in-depth understanding of particle size analysis techniques such as laser diffraction and optical imaging, along with the ability to employ these methods and instruct others.
Comprehensive knowledge of the physical and particle properties required for the manufacture of drug substances and the materials needed for drug product formulation is important.
A proven track record of robust technical skills and proficiency in the development, validation, transfer, and troubleshooting of analytical methods.
The demonstrated capability to acquire new techniques and resolve complex analytical challenges
The ability to adhere to timelines and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams is crucial.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and proven leadership qualities, such as the ability to influence and work collaboratively with peers, mentor and coach others, and provide oversight and guidance for colleagues' work,
Proven oral and written communication abilities, including data visualization, delivering presentations, and writing technical articles.
Nice-to-Have Experience in solid-state characterization, encompassing X-ray powderdiffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, NMR, among others. Proficient in a variety of general analytical techniques.
Proficiency in a broad range of software and information systems, including electronic notebooks
A strong interest and eagerness to learn new technologies and concepts
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis
