We now have a global workforce across a host of storied brands, spanning all areas of produced and live entertainment, from film, television, streaming, to advertising, live events, and short-form.Associate General Counsel (Litigation and Payroll)Regular Full-TimePOSITION OVERVIEWThis role is for a lawyer with at least 6 years of litigation and labor & employment experience (including but not limited to California wage and hour matters) with a mix of law firm and in-house roles, ideally with meaningful experience related to entertainment production and payroll. Labor relations experience is a significant plus. This role is focused on supporting our payroll and residuals operations and is responsible for handling external litigation and disputes, providing guidance on operational compliance related to payroll and residuals operations, developing and advising on internal operational controls, coordinating on matters related to workers’ compensation, addressing garnishment questions, and serving as a key partner to the payroll operations and labor relations teams. This lawyer will also be expected to proactively contribute to the development of the legal department and development of policies and procedures for the company; initiate, develop and manage business relationships and relationships with outside counsel; contribute to the increasing effectiveness of the legal department and the success of the company by evaluating and improving interfaces between departments; assist team members in assigned projects; participate in departmental training; and perform other duties as assigned. This lawyer possesses the subject matter expertise, maturity and gravitas to be able to engage with a wide range of internal and external constituencies, including clients, executive team members, and other leaders across the organization, in an advisory and business partner capacity.RESPONSIBILITIESManage external litigation, disputes and indemnification matters, working with internal constituencies and outside counselCoordinate reporting relating to such mattersAttend Labor Board hearingsHandle wage complaint mattersCoordinate client reporting requests and respond to client inquiries on various topicsServe as a key partner and legal subject matter expert to various operations teams, including payroll, residuals, labor relations and workers’ compensationProvide operational implementation guidance, including input on legal and operational documentsAssist in the development, implementation and observation of internal operational controlsAssist in the development and delivery of training programs related to areas of subject matter expertiseProvide support and guidance on garnishment mattersDevelop and maintain relationships with outside counsel in locations as necessary in connection with the handling of external litigation and related mattersAct as a business partner to leaders of each of the functional groupsProvide guidance and advice to internal leadersDevelop relationships with primary contacts at key clients and counterpartiesAdvise executive leadership and the legal department with respect to key developments in applicable laws and regulationsEngage with the company’s enterprise risk program and seek ways to minimize or address key areas of exposureAssist with record retention and data management practices with respect to sensitive informationPerform other duties as assigned to support the legal department, operational teams and the companyREPORTING RELATIONSHIPSSupervisor: Deputy General CounselSubordinate(s): As AssignedSKILLS AND ABILITIESEffectively represent the Cast & Crew values and goalsOutsized sense of urgencyAbility to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external constituenciesAbility to build consensus and bring matters to resolution at all levels of the companyAbility to manage multiple, concurrent projectsEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationshipsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent time management skillsExcellent attention to detailA competitive and collaborative spiritMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSJ.D. and admission to the California bar or the ability to work as in-house counsel in CaliforniaMinimum 6 years of increasingly responsible law firm and in-house experience as a litigation and labor & employment attorneySubject matter expertise regarding federal and California labor & employment laws and regulationsDemonstrated experience advising companies and leaders on a broad range of litigation and labor & employment mattersLabor/industrial relations experience is a significant plusOTHERIntermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint requiredAbility to travel up to 10% of timeSPECIAL WORK CONDITIONSSedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The base compensation range for this position is 175K - 200K per year.
