About Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach

API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization focused on the Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, and immigrant communities of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Valley. A growing community-based organization founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate direct services to the most marginalized segments of our community including low-income women, seniors, immigrants, and youth. With offices in Oakland and San Francisco, our work is focused in the areas of Gender-based Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Disability Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth Violence Prevention, Anti API Hate Violence, the preservation of affordable housing and small businesses, and other social justice issues.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Managing Attorney, the Supervising Attorney will play a crucial role in leading our clinics on Anti-API Hate Violence, Small Business, and Immigration, emphasizing the management and coordination of our clinical legal services. This position involves supervising legal work and mentoring staff, as well as coordinating pro bono support, and is based primarily in our San Francisco office, with additional responsibilities in our East Bay office. The role requires a strong commitment to social justice, with frequent interactions with a wide range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to serving underserved Asian and Pacific Islander communities and BIPOC communities in the Greater Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities

Provide management and coordination for clinic legal services including anti-API hate violence clinic and also in project areas described above, plus coordination of pro bono support.Provide legal services to project clients.Act as primary contact with project related bar associations, community partners and other community organizations.Coordinate community education and outreach for clinical services.Draft all necessary reports for funders and the organization; provide evaluations of project services and performance of project staff.Represent the organization at community, legal, and other meetings and functions, including meetings of funders and donors.Provide technical assistance and training to community agencies and partners.Assist with administrative and fundraising work of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to social justice and to serving underserved communities, and to the mission, projects and organizational operations of API Legal Outreach.At least two years of successful experience providing relevant legal services in the priority project areas particularly in anti-API violence, community small businesses, immigration and/or other project areas.Superior performance evaluations from relevant, applicable positions.Bilingual and bicultural skills relevant to the low-income communities.Ability to work well in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Member in good standing of the California Bar.At least two years successful experience in supervising others engaged in social justice work, and relevant legal services, case management, and contract management experience.Experience with Legal Server, Immigrant Pro, Essential Forms, Excel, and other legal software.California’s driver’s license and own vehicle.
