Role Summary:

Join the SDV UX Group at Cariad, a Volkswagen Group Company, as we redefine the holistic vehicle user experience for software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Our mission encompasses both physical and digital interactions, establishing the platform that the brands of the Volkswagen Group will use to innovate and build their future vehicles.

We are seeking a hardworking and talented In-vehicle UX/UI Designer to join our SDV Platform Team in Mountain View, California. Reporting to the Creative Director, you will be a key player in developing and refining user experiences that bridge the gap between the digital and physical realms of our vehicles. You will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to design, prototype, and implement user interfaces that elevate the driving experience and set new standards in the automotive industry.

Role Responsibilities:

Design and develop intuitive, user-centric interfaces for in-vehicle systems, including infotainment, driver assistance, and connectivity features.Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and other team members to conceptualize and prototype innovative UX solutions that enhance the overall user experience.Create detailed wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas and functionality.Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and validate design concepts, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.Work with software engineers to implement and refine designs, ensuring a high level of quality and consistency across all touchpoints.Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in automotive UX/UI designParticipate in cross-functional design reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve the overall design process and product quality.General Skills:

Excellent communication and collaboration skillsCollaborate and work with multiple teams across geographies and time zones.Ability to articulate design concepts and rationale to stakeholders at all levels.Required Specialized Skills:

Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator, with experience in prototyping tools such as Protopie being a plus.Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies, with the ability to translate complex requirements into intuitive and visually appealing interfaces.Experience conducting user research and usability testing, with the ability to synthesize findings into actionable design improvements.Passion for creating innovative and impactful user experiences that enhance the driving experience.Desired Skills:

Familiarity with automotive industry standards, trends, and technologies is a plus.Workplace Flexibility:

Calls, (virtual) meetings & workshops (overlapping with German/US business hours as needed) to align with leadership and development teams.Occasional international and domestic travel to provide on-site support and planning/integration workshops with our internal and external stakeholders.Years of Relevant Experience:

5+ years of experience in UX/UI design, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work on in-vehicle systems or other embedded interfaces.Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.Desired Education:

Master's degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

Compensation

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry-based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Mountain View, California, the salary range for this position is $134,000 - 168,900.
