Statutory Reporting AccountantLocation: Remote or La Jolla, CaliforniaThe Details:The Senior Statutory Reporting Accountant reports to the Manager, Statutory Reporting Manager and is responsible for a variety of statutory accounting functions such as performing accurate and timely Monthly Journal Entry Preparation, General Ledger Account Reconciliation and Schedule Maintenance, support for Audits and Quarterly and Annual Statutory Reporting. This role will generate reports by pulling data from multiple systems, consolidating, and analyzing the data. Critical thinking and adherence to internal deadlines as well as state required deadlines is a must.What will you do?:Assist in preparation of various statutory deliverables, including quarterly and annual statements, schedules and footnotes/disclosure schedules, supplementary filings to the states or the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and audited financial statements.Complete monthly accounting close related activities, including the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations for premiums, losses, reinsurance and statutory adjustmentsAssist in preparation and filing of supplemental schedules and state and regulatory reporting formsCompile financial data from tax and investment teams to include in regulatory and statutory filingsSupport external auditor activities relating to statutory audits, including providing certain schedules and variance explanations and audited financial statements and related footnote disclosures theretoAssist Statutory Reporting Manager with tasks or projects.Research and analyze financial variances and report appropriate corrective actionStandardize and document most efficient reconciliation processesMaintain accurate and organized electronic files with supporting documentsEnsure data integrity by maintaining appropriate controls for audit verificationOther duties as assigned or requestedStrong research and analytical skills, able to multi-task.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent preferred4 to 7 years of related work experienceStatutory Reporting Experience Highly PreferredAttention to detail, producing accurate and high-quality workAbility to multi-task, meet deadlines and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high demand work environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsMust be able to manipulate and create Excel spreadsheets; including standardizing reports and formulas to generate desired results (Intermediate to Advanced level Microsoft Excel 2007+ skills)Ability to comply with operating policies, procedures and rules is essentialMust be able to use discretion and handle sensitive/confidential informationMust be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance; the ability to work overtime as requiredMust maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, clients, and customers (60% independent work and 40% collaborative work)
