JOB SUMMARYThe Speech-Language Pathologist plans, conducts and evaluates the treatment program for individuals with disorders in the comprehension and production of speech and language, as set forth by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Under the direction of the attending physician, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides assessment and treatment of cognitive and swallowing disorders.

Skill SetPHYSICAL DEMANDS Requires moderately heavy occupational exertion on a regular and reoccurring basis. Regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel and hear and talk. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to sit. Occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. WORKING CONDITIONS General office, health care setting - exposure to infectious disease. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Evaluates patient's speech and language abilities, both defects and assets, and evaluates the patient's level of function. Plans and provides rehabilitative services for speech and language disorders. Assists in developing and updating the plan of treatment. Provides assessment and treatment of cognitive and swallowing disorders. 2. Observes, reports and records type of treatment and patient's responses to it, reports progress and/or regression to physician and Program Supervisor. Submits to the physician and the Program Supervisor written reports of the patient's progress at the designated intervals and at discharge of the patient using the appropriate and designated forms. 3. Selects and administers diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and materials for patient evaluation and treatment purposes. Recommends augmentative communication devices/aids as needed such as gesture systems, communication boards, electrical automated devices and mechanical devices in the patient. 4. Adheres to all applicable federal, state, local and company maintained standards of care and ethics and policies concerned with the practice of therapy and among other things, personnel qualifications. 5. Participates in staff development activities and in in-service education programs. 6. Demonstrates evidence of continuing education conducted for in-service sessions. 7. Meets productivity and utilization expectations as established by the Company and the facility. 8. Completes clinical documentation to include functional goal-setting, progress and therapeutic approach timely and accurately. 9. Completes administrative/billing documentation timely and accurately. 10. Covers more than one facility as required by the need of the Company. 11.
