Primary Function :Performs either EEG and evoked potential testing or nerve conduction testing.Neurodiagnostic testing Obtains a brief history, explains the procedure to be performed and prepares patient for examination. Exhibits a cordial, professional and caring manner in all interactions with patients. Sees to any patient needs during the course of the examination. Verifies correct operation of neurodiagnostic equipment. Reports any system malfunctions to the Neurophysiology Supervisor or Director of Technical Operations. Performs neurodiagnostic testing using approved technique. The Neurophysiology Tech I is responsible for conducting either NCT testing or EEG/EP testing. Assures that adequate supplies for needle EMG exams are ready and that system is properly configured prior to EMG as appropriate. Assists physicians during needle electromyographic examination when requested. Marks charge slips and forwards completed fee slips to office staff for posting. Logs tests and maintains any other Neurophysiology Department records. Transfers completed studies to physicians for interpretation. Reviews appointment schedule daily for patient schedules.Complies with the Neurology Center HIPAA, OSHA and corporate policies and procedures. Related Duties :Processes, distributes and archives reports.Assists other departments in locating neurodiagnostic test results.Maintains machine and laboratory cleanliness.Notifies more senior techs or the Neurophysiology Supervisor of any need for supplies.Checks technician staffing schedule for daily assignments. Reports scheduling conflicts to neurophysiology supervisor.Travels to other NCPA clinical locations in DC and Montgomery County, MDPerforms other duties as directed. RequirementsTwo years of college level study or equivalent training and experience is necessary. Completion of an accredited Neurodiagnostic training program is preferred.Proficiency in NCT or EEG/EP testing is required. This includes sound understanding of the relevant technical and clinical fundamentals.
