Broadband Network Technician
Job Description
Vantage Point Solutions, a growing and dynamic telecommunications consulting and engineering firm, is seeking a qualified individual to join our team of professionals. We have an immediate opening for a Broadband Network Technician. Staff will be based out of our Birmingham, AL office, however, position requires a high degree of travel.
Responsibilities
Typical duties for this position include:•Fiber testing including OTDR and loss measurement•Installation of data center infrastructure such as racks, data bays, cable racks, fiber duct, and AC and DC power distribution components•Installation of broadband electronics including transport, access, routing, and switching equipment•Commissioning of electronics including transport, access, routing, switching, and ancillary equipment
Candidates should be self-motivated, resourceful, professional, and exhibit good judgement.
Competencies•Attention to detail (ie, proofreading, data, communications, etc.)•Ability to communicate confidently with both clients and team members•Strong written communication across multiple platforms (ie, email, reports, etc.)•IT troubleshooting skills•Strong knowledge of fiber optic cabling•Knowledge of DC power systems•Fluent in central office and data center grounding requirements•Proficiency in common Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint
Education & Experience
An associate or bachelor's degree in broadband communications, or equivalent industry experience
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct supervisory duties.
