Have you ever wondered how insurance companies calculate the price of insurance policies?The Actuarial Enterprise Data & Solutions Team is a dynamic, growing team at Arch. This team implements innovative insurance pricing models and analytical tools to improve profitability and growth across a wide range of Property & Casualty insurance products.The Director, Data Engineer, will implement complex databases and data pipelines that put analytics at the heart of real-time decision-making. They will work closely with leaders across the company on high-profile analytics projects that drive business strategies. They provide technical guidance and ensure the use of sound engineering practices and effective use of resources. As a key member of the Actuarial Enterprise Data & Solutions implementation engineering team, they will advance our implementation capabilities and help our team deliver solutions faster.Responsibilities

Work with strategic partners to solve business problems by directing junior employees to develop best-in-class data solutionsManage data engineering throughout the project lifecycleBuild strong partnerships with peers across the organization to support data-related goalsProactively design intuitive data structures by anticipating analytic needsExplore new technologies and data sources with curiosity and creativityLeverage technology to automate data ingestion and link external and internal dataProvide the appropriate documentation of sources and technical solutionsEducation And Experience

7+ years of software testing experience.2+ years managing a small teamDemonstrated experience building data structures to support analytics/research/actuarial functions in an insurance company settingExperience with cloud technologies like Snowflake and DatabricksFamiliarity with the MLOps frameworkAbility to operate independently – managing tasks and engaging people across the teamExceptional collaboration and relationship building skillsComfortable handling ambiguous concepts and breaking down complex problems into manageable piecesStrong data manipulation skills for analyticsResilient problem solving and critical thinking skillsThorough understanding of data warehousing concepts and designAbility to communicate effectively to different target audiencesFlexibility - able to meet changing requirements and prioritiesCollege degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or equivalentFor individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.$129,500 - $201,066/yearTotal individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.
