Plans, organizes, and assigns daily work to crews and equipment operators. Regularly reviews work assignments and re-directs crews as needed. General supervision from the Director of Physical Services. Works as a colleague with other department supervisors and with other town department supervisors.Examples of Specific Duties:
Supervises repair and reconstruction of roads; laying and repair of drainage pipe; maintenance, construction, repair and cleaning catch basins; overseeing contracted street sweeping; coordinates leaf pickup program; plowing and removal of snow from town roads; general care and maintenance of town roadsides. Supervises responses to winter, road or bridge emergency work. Responsible for overseeing various department related assignments including: private contractors, performing road work, Traffic Authority related signage, coordinates work to be done with CBYD, MDC and Eversource. Assigns, supervises and trains staff. Coordinates training of workers in job, new work procedures or operating equipment. Coordinates the performance evaluation of employees. Assists in personnel actions such as employment and promotion of employees. May issue low level of discipline to employees and makes recommendations for more serious discipline. Promotes continuing education in all aspects of road work and public works maintenance. Follows safety standards, procedures and regulations. Keeps work, time, and material records. Prepares reports and maintains records relating to highway operations. Reports work to Director.Qualifications:
Graduation from high school, high school equivalency diploma (GED) or trade school graduate, or equivalent education such as military experience.Six years minimum related experience in roads maintenance or construction work, including two years’ experience as a lead worker. Minimum of five years’ experience in snow operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or equivalent in demonstrated abilities.Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut driver license.Must possess commercial driver’s license at time of employment.To Apply for This Position:Completed Employment Applications must be received by Human Resources.
