Our team’s work has a direct impact on Yahoo Mail, the second largest email provider in the US, and an array of other Yahoo products, and is seen and used by hundreds of millions of active users worldwide. The team has vast knowledge and expertise in turning huge amounts of user data into knowledge and applications using state-of-the-art techniques in machine learning and data science. Finally, you are an excellent communicator, capable of abstracting complex solutions and presenting your work to internal partners as well as researchers in the academic community.ResponsibilitiesIdentify, scope, and formulate new problemsDesign metrics and experiments to analyze problems and measure resultsReview state-of-the-art approaches, explore new ones, propose appropriate solutionsPrototype and evaluate effective solutions based on agreed-upon goals and metricsWork and communicate effectively with engineering partners to put research results into actionProvide thought leadership to guide the direction of products and servicesAct as tech lead for small teams of scientists and engineersGenerate intellectual property with patent applications and publications at relevant forumsStay current on state-of-the-art research and emerging technologies in related disciplinesMaintain world-class credentials through publications, collaborations, and service to the research communityRequirementsPh.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math or related fieldMinimum of 6 years experience in industry in large-scale information extraction, classification, information retrieval, natural language processing, or related fieldExpertise in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, or Web MiningSolid programming skills in high-level languages such as Python, Java, Scala or similarExperience in directing collaborative research, as evidenced through solid publications and previous leadership rolesStrong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
