The ClinicalNurseLeader(CNL) isaRegisteredNursewithaMaster'sdegreeinNursingfromauniversitywithaspecialized CNL program. The competencies unique to CNL practice are clinical leadership, care environment management, and clinical outcomes management. The CNL enacts these competencies at the clinical microsystem defined as functional front-line unit such as hospital unit to influence care delivery processes and dynamics. The CNL works with healthcare team members and leaders to coordinate care, manage resources, and compile and evaluate data with a focus on quality, patient safety, and outcomes. The CNL partners with patients, staff and providers. The CNL collaborates with nursing leadership to focus on the patient, at the point of care as a subject matter expert. To support this effort, he/she must maintain clinical knowledge. It is expected CNLs are RNs, CNL certified, clinically knowledgeable, uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the healthcare team, it is expected the CNL upholds the voice of the patient and Grady's policies and procedures while supporting Grady's mission and values.

RESPONSIBILITIES :Servesasaliaisonwithfacility-basedqualitycommitteesandworkswiththeinterdisciplinaryteamtoensurecompliancewith core performance standards.

Utilizesinformationtechnologytoobtainevidence-basedpracticesandthelatestresearchtoprovidecurrentbestpractice information to care providers on the unit.

Assessespatient'sresponsetotreatmentandcarethroughothercareproviderinformationorexaminespatientdirectly(not on every patient)

AssistsDirectorwithmonitoringoftheunit'scompliancewithregulatoryagenciesrequirementsrelativetopatientsafety including TJC, OSHA, CMS and others.

Providesinputtonursingleadershipontheevaluationandcompetencyofnursingstaffandensuresappropriateassessment of learner needs.

Ensures the effective education of the patient and patient's family to prepare for

discharge.

Assumesaleadershiproleinthedevelopment,revisionandimplementationofclinicalprotocolswhichtransitionpatients across the continuum of care.

Communicatesconstructivefeedbacktoassistothersintheirgrowthasprofessionalsandiscognizantofculturaldifferences when communicating.

ProvidesinformationtostaffonnationallyrecommendedsafetypracticesandservesasaHROSafetycoachandchampion. Collects data on patient outcomes on the unit i.e. falls, pressure ulcers, medication errors, etc.

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) has the authority to intervene in patient care to ensure safety is paramount, patients and families unique needs are anticipated as well as their expectations are exceeded.The Clinical Nurse Leader impacts operationsbyensuringclinicalstaffaresupportedintheirdeliveryofqualitycarethatisinalignmentwiththelatestevidence based practices.The Clinical Nurse Leader is empowered to investigate and resolve patient care issues on behalf of unit leadership and may represent unit leadership in handling complaintsand resolution of grievances.

Workswithteammembers,otherleadersandphysicianstodevelopandtrendperformanceimprovementindicatorsbased on national standards and best practices.

Writes or revises unit-based procedures, protocols to reflect latest

evidence.

Consciouslyprovidesopportunitiesforlessexperiencednursingstafftoobserveandparticipateinphysicalassessment,data review and evaluation of individual outcomes provided by the Clinical Nurse Leader.

Overseesthemanagementofpatientcarethroughassessmentofpatientpopulationdaily. Facilitates full team discussions including patient and family when ethical dilemmas arise.

Ensures effective communication through the continuum to support ongoing progress toward identified

outcomes.

EDUCATION:

Required:

Master'sDegreeinClinicalNurseLeaderwithCNLCertification

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Two (2) or more years job related experience including working as a bedside

nurse.

Preferred:

Five (5) or more years job related experience including working as a bedside nurse, nurse leader or Clinical Nurse

Leader.
