The anticipated salary range for this role is between $166,000.00 and $205,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
The Director of Operational Resilienceis responsible for the implementation, and maintenance of SMBC AD's Operational Resilience framework with a focus on understanding and documenting how SMBC’s Important Business Services work and how SMBC would continue to provide these services to ensure operational readiness and response to business disruption events. This position will also contribute along the Operational Resilience Lifecycle including contributing to and developing policy, as well as scenario testing and metrics monitoring.
Role Objectives: Delivery
Responsibilities of the Department include: developing resilience strategies, policies, and framework specific to SMBC that reflect changes to the environment and business operations; delivering business analytics and reporting, monitoring, and analyzing key risk and control indicators. The ORD will expand function responsible for defining and delivering SMBC's Operational Resilience program partnering with stakeholders across the three lines of defense.
The Operational Resilience team is accountable for (1) identifying all SMBC Americas Division (AD) Important Business Services, (2) create end-to-end process mapping and identify underlying people, technology and vendor assets associated with delivering the service, (3) test all Important Business Services (IBS) and (4) create Service Playbooks for each IBS on how to deliver the service in a crisis.
Collaborate with the Business Owners, Information Technology, Cyber, BCM and Third Party to create playbooks that to provide instructions on delivering an Important Business Service during a crisis.
Determine which qualitative/quantitative metrics measure Firmwide resilience and either establish or work with Op Res pillar partners to produce and report those metrics
Support the business areas in documenting Important Business Services, associate end-to-end processes, and the underlying people, technology and vendor assets.
Develop and implement key program components across required Operational Resilience workstreams, including but not limited to Governance, Scenario Development, Testing, and Crisis Management
Drive efforts around education, awareness, and adoption of the Business Resilience program across AD. Foster and grow a "Culture of Resilience" at SMBC
Perform new activity review , ensuring resilience risks arising from new products and/or businesses, migrations, etc. are properly considered
Connect and align SMBC’s operational risk management processes with the operational resilience framework
Qualifications and Skills
Mastery of project execution and delivery with proven track record of successful large, complex, multi-team projects
Knowledge of core competencies across the 4 Pillars of Operational Resilience (1.) Business Resilience, (2.) Technology Resilience, (3.) Third Party Resilience, and (4.) Cyber Resilience
Experience creating policy, procedure , and playbook documents. The ability to define problems, collect relevant information, and draw insightful conclusions.
Ability to interface with senior management and deliver concise & effective messaging to drive understanding of Operational Resilience core components
Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, organizational and time management skills
Familiarity with operational risk and enterprise risk management best-practices and controls
