Overall Position Description

The logistics industry continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace as big data and technology enhancements drive the demand for change. For England Logistics (EL) to maintain its stature as a leader in the industry we must maximize the opportunity to consume and translate data to help drive our business decisions. The role of Data Scientist is integral in providing the insight and tools necessary to accomplish this objective. This individual is expected to have advanced skills in a variety of statistical techniques along with analytical techniques including Python, SQL, data mining and data modeling. The main responsibility of this role is to determine opportunities for Data Science or Machine Learning projects, to prepare and present the results of these projects and then to incorporate the results into the business. Other responsibilities include obtaining, cleansing, mining, and interpreting big data. This individual helps identify additional data sources that are applicable to the transportation industry in order to provide substance, detail and integrity to various analytical outputs. By utilizing different modeling tools and identifying data patterns this position helps facilitate business insights and decision making.The Data Scientist consistently demonstrates a positive and hardworking attitude, a continuous commitment to personal, organizational and process improvement and to build strong partnerships, one employee and one customer at a time.

Essential Functions And Results Expectations

Experience with machine learning, statistical analysis and predictive modelingExperience with a variety of statistical modeling toolsExposure to CI/CD pipelinesResponsible for cleansing, mining, interpreting and organizing big data (ETL)Seeks data sources that are applicable to the transportation industry for consumption and analysisUtilizing various modeling tools, seeks data patterns to help facilitate business insight and decision makingStrong data discovery, visualization, and analysis skillsProven success in problem solvingDemonstrated ability to successfully take initiativeAdvanced skills in Python and SQLExperience using APIs (example REST, SOAP)

Timely completion of tasks as assignedRequires little to no supervision, relying on extensive experience and judgementDefines and designs intermediate to complex reporting and KPI output strategies to support business objectivesStrong knowledge of various divisional datasets, locations and architecture sets as well as business process

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred Masters Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Math, or similar quantitative field.Strong data discovery, visualization, and analysis skillsA genuine desire to organize data and make it accessible with the technical skills to bring your ideas to reality
