Data Scientist

RAND Data Scientists work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of research on a wide range of issues spanning health care, education and labor, social and economic wellbeing, national security, and military manpower. Data Scientists work closely with research staff in creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data sets. Data Scientists are expected to acquire a basic understanding of the research topic and a thorough knowledge of the data involved while applying programming and analytic skills.Basic QualificationsAbility to program using SAS or R for data management and statistical analysisExceptional problem-solving abilities with a solid understanding of statistical methodsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to produce careful and detail-oriented workAbility to work in a team environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience in any of the following is preferred:Simulation modeling (agent-based, dynamic, or discrete event methods)Data science in health economics and healthcareDevelopment and maintenance of large language model (LLM) pipelinesExperience working with longitudinal surveys preferredExperience working in research settings strongly preferredEducationBA/BS in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field required. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title, as determined by the candidate's education and experience. The salary range includes base pay plus RAND’s sabbatic pay (which provides additional compensation above base pay when vacation is taken).
