We are actively seeking current or recent federal law clerks interested in joining the firm as Litigation Attorney in our Washington, D.C. or Seattle office, to start in the summer or early Fall.Job ClassificationEXEMPTCompensationExpect a base salary ranging from $215,000 - $250,000, depending on class year.Essential Job FunctionsELG’s litigators prosecute and defend cases involving voting rights, redistricting, the First Amendment, and other areas consistent with the firm’s and its clients’ missions. ELG consistently has active cases in both state and federal courts and at the trial court and appellate level, including before the U.S. Supreme Court. These matters are often high pressure, fast paced, and offer a rewarding opportunity for lawyers who want to use their litigation skills on the front lines to protect democracy and support the efforts of progressive clients.We are currently actively seeking current and recent federal law clerks to apply for the position of Litigation Associate. Excellent legal writing skills are a must, as are excellent oral presentation skills, careful attention to detail and the ability to work quickly, thoughtfully, and collaboratively in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Prior active litigation experience (including in law school clinics) is a plus, as is journal experience. High performing litigation associates can expect to get substantial and meaningful responsibility for important filings, as well as opportunities early in their career to take depositions and even appear in court.All applicants are asked to address the following in their cover letter:- Why are you interested in ELG?- What is the best lesson you've learned in the past five years?- Tell a story that illustrates your problem solving skills.- How would you add value to the practice and your case teams beginning in your first month?Minimum QualificationsHave excellent writing and editing skills, and be able to draft compelling, accurate, and thoughtful written work product;Have strong oral presentation and client-facing skills;Have meaningful experience in state or federal court litigation (including clerkship experience);Have a strong understanding of the lifecycle of a civil case and working knowledge of the rules of procedure and evidence;Be committed to a team mentality (with the attitude that no job is too small);Have a commitment to the mission of ELG.Work EnvironmentPosition will operate on a hybrid schedule in a professional office environment and is expected to work in office at least three (3) days a week. The ability to work additional hours beyond the normal schedule may be required, especially around relevant election dates or filing periods. Travel is required.Position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.Position requires that the employee be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.Physical DemandsThis position is primarily a sedentary position.
