Psychiatrist

has a critical role for the youth in Good Shepherd Services care. There are four major components to the psychiatrists role: 1) Routine and emergency psychiatric evaluations; 2) psychiatric impressions; 3) medication management and 4) Attend and be an active member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.Department: Residential ProgramReports To:

Part Time 21/hours minimum (Hours can be spread out Monday-Friday)Responsibilities:Provide Evaluations and Impressions:Routine Psychiatric Evaluations, by appointment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations on an appointment basis after being provided with all available paperwork, including past medical history and, in most circumstances, a psychosocial written by a GSS staff social worker (or by staff from outside agencies, if available).Emergency Psychiatric Consultation and Assessment when needed: Conduct an urgent assessment of a youth in crisis to assist treatment team in preventing hospitalization or to develop alternative plan. Information will be provided verbally if not in writing. External partners rely on these impressions and evaluations.Medication Management:For youth who are admitted to GSSs care already on psychotropic medications, the psychiatrist assesses and adjusts these medications as needed.For youth requesting (or staff requesting on behalf of youth) evaluations for medications, the psychiatrist assesses whether medications are warranted and, in conjunction with Health Services, Case Planning and Social Work staff, devises an appropriate plan.For youth who are psychiatrically hospitalized, the psychiatrist communicates with the treatment team at the hospital to consult about planning and post discharge plans.Meet /talk with parents to obtain informed consent as needed.Participation in Treatment Team/Other Meetings Regarding Youth Needs:The psychiatrist provides a summary of their evaluation of youth they have assessed and, based on their psychiatric knowledge, offers impressions and collaboration about other residents based on staffs reports.Adhere to Child Welfare Principles of Safety, Permanency and Well-being.Provides timely paperwork in compliance with ACS, OCFS and COA requirements.Provides Psychiatric Evaluations and Impressions as well as Medication Management for youth who are in Good Shepherd Services care & custody.Participate in mandatory on-line or in-person trainings (e.g., Medicaid Compliance and HIPAA)Effectively use and practice the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MD or DO license/NY State Board Certification in Psychiatry Child/Adolescent PsychiatryExperience working with children, adolescents and families.

Comfortable with using electronic health records/EMRs and prescribing electronically.Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspectiveMust have a commitment to GSS models of practice including Youth and Family Development.Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written, organization and prioritization skillsDemonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a fast-paced milieu setting.
