The City of Miami Beach, Florida is seeking a Municipal Prosecutor in its City Attorney's Office to join the City's municipal prosecution team. We are seeking a skilled litigator who is comfortable handling a large criminal caseload, being in court frequently, and prosecuting numerous trials. The ideal candidate for the position will have at least 2-5 years of criminal law and litigation experience. Highly competitive compensation and benefits are offered. The successful candidate will be responsible for the prosecution of criminal violations of the City's code of ordinances before the County Court in and for Miami-Dade County Florida. Additionally, the successful candidate will also conduct legal research and writing on constitutional issues arising from existing and proposed criminal legislation and will be responsible for drafting appellate briefs and appearing in the appellate court to defend the City's criminal ordinances. Additionally, they may also handle the prosecution of code enforcement matters before the Special Magistrates of the City of Miami Beach to ensure regulatory compliance with particular statutes, regulations, and codes, including, inter alia, illegal short-term rental prosecutions, violations of the City s code of conduct for sidewalk cafes, and other administrative prosecutions.The City Attorney's Office is seeking an individual with oral advocacy, legal writing, organization skills, and who exhibits enthusiasm, judgment, intelligence, and legal ability to effectively represent the interests of the City of Miami Beach.Prosecution of criminal violations of the City's code of ordinances.Manage significant criminal caseload from inception to trial and on appeal.Conduct legal research.Draft legal memoranda, trial court pleadings, and appellate briefs on constitutional issues arising from the City's prosecutions and other quality of life enforcement actions.Draft and respond to written discovery.Draft and argue motions.Preparation and summation of case work for presentation of cases in jury and non-jury trials.Handle appeals of violations of the City's code of ordinances.Trial experience is preferred but not required.Must be a Member of the Florida Bar in Good Standing.Stellar academic credentials required.Must have knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Must be technologically confident, effectively utilize available technology and automation.The work is typically performed in an office and in courtrooms and meeting rooms while sitting at a desk or table while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objectsMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contactPhysical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machineAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
