AVP, Staff Counsel OversightJob LocationsUS-United StatesOverviewAs a direct report to the head of Litigation, the position provides oversight, leadership, direction, monitor results of AmTrust's local general liability staff counsel offices, and establishes long- and short-term business and litigation strategies in coordination with the Litigation Leadership team. The position will also oversee development and implementation of expansion of general liability staff counsel offices into new jurisdictions. Position will also serve as a critical partner to our AmTrust's claims leadership in upholding AmTrust's mission, vision, and values.ResponsibilitiesDirect oversight and management responsibilities of staff counsel directors and managers.Provide insights and analysis on complex and wide-ranging legal topics while objectively uncovering critical issues and providing key insights for the business unit; directs or champions the development of new or innovative solutions.Provide timely and appropriate advice, counsel and leadership working as a liaison between claims or other executive management on active and ongoing litigation matters.Takes a practical approach to establishing and improving work and litigation initiatives; keeps involved in the day-to-day operations of the law offices unit as required to drive strategy.Focus on building relationships and shares learnings and insights with peers across the organization to capitalize on lessons learned and solutions.Fosters collaboration, partnership and communication to achieve department, client and company goals.Guides others in understanding and navigating internal networks and political relationships to drive success.Leads goal setting for the staff counsel offices in collaboration with peers and other business leaders, aligning with business and litigation strategy.Builds and leads the building of high performing teams by integrating a diversity of skills and personalities and creating a shared purpose and culture of trust and transparency.Provides for the effective selection, engagement, development and balanced feedback, including corrective action when needed to team members to improve individual and organizational performance.Performs other litigation department related duties as assigned.QualificationsJuris Doctor from Accredited Law SchoolState Bar licensed attorney15+ years in practice of law; 10 years' experience in leadership roles in group practice litigation litigating Insurance related cases or with Insurance Company in Litigation leadership positionExperienced leader of attorneysDemonstrates advanced understanding of litigation strategy and execution for multiple lines of insuranceEmbraces changes; invites feedback related to performance and deals constructively with criticism.Proven track record of earning and keeping the trust of clients and colleaguesPersuades and influences within the company by presenting a strong case; explains things clearly, challenges ideas effectively and argues in favor of own point of view.Entrepreneurial spirit and focus on customers as shown though courage to pursue new and unprecedented opportunities.Ability to synthesize and draw conclusions from large amounts of data; translating the data into actions and results.Emotionally intelligent and self awareQualifications Preferred:Multi-state Bar admittanceExperience with Legal Case Management systemExperience working in private practice and staff counsel environmentsThis job description is designed to provide a general overview of the requirements of the job and does not entail a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that will be required in this position.
