Role:

This individual is responsible for the oversight of accounting functions to include but not limited to daily operational accounting and balancing, managing the completion of the month end process including reporting, accounts payable, ensuring necessary accounting controls are in place, GL management, and completion of monthly and quarterly reporting.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees/prepares all financial and accounting records of the credit union to include maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, posting accounting entries and maintaining accurate record keeping and fixed asset management and ensuring internal controls are in place for the financial records and assigned duties.
  • Oversees/performs financial reporting to regulatory authorities, management, and the Board of Directors.
  • Supervises the operations and accounting for Indirect lending
  • Vault cash policy and monitoring
  • Expense Policy Management and processes
  • Manage the controls and processes for Accounts Payable,
  • Ensure accounting team completes timely and accurate balancing and reconciliation of corporate account, MoneyGram, ACH, share drafts, cards, and ATMs (for cash and checks), mortgages and consumer loans, Insurance products and payroll.
  • Recommend changes to improve efficiency and oversee updates required by regulations and compliance.
  • Work closely with internal auditors, external auditors, and federal credit union examiners to ensure the credit union is following prescribed accounting methods set forth in regulation, FASB, and GAAP.
  • Oversee the completion of Month End Close process
  • Represent the Accounting team for projects and committees.
  • Manage reconciliation procedure
  • Manage the GL structure, organization, and maintenance
  • Manage the accounting for deferred and capitalized expenses
  • Manage the records retention schedule for document management as it relates to accounting.
  • Assist in the completion of the annual Budget and accrual accounting.
  • Complete Budget to Actual financial review
  • Ensure accurate and current procedures and policies for accounting
  • Responsible for the HR administration of employees in Accounting to include proper staffing, recruiting, coaching, career development, performance reviews and salary administration.
  • Instill accountability for processes among the teams, recommend changes to improve efficiency and oversee updates required by regulations and compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with all laws and regulations for assigned areas, including BSA and OFAC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Minimum five to seven years of accounting or related experience.

Education: Bachelor's degree required. Concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Business is preferred.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

Other Skills:

    1. Experience in accounting and finance
    2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    3. Well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for supervising credit union staff and serving credit union members.
    4. Good knowledge and understanding required of automated data processing systems, including PC, software programs such as Excel, Work, etc.
    5. High level of integrity and discretion required to maintain confidentiality.
    6. Strong organization and time management skills required to manage and prioritize a large quantity of work with accuracy.
    7. Ability to multi-task, communicate progress and meet deadlines.
    8. Ability to adapt to frequent changes in the work environment, manage competing
      demands, delays, or unexpected events.


Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment: In office five days a week.
