Manager of Professional Development -Attorneys

Position Summary:

Professional Development is part of the Firm's Human Capital Management Group and is responsible for developing and implementing training and professional development opportunities firm-wide both for attorneys and business services professionals. The PD team works closely with other Firm departments including Human Resources, Attorney Resources, Practice Groups, HRIS and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. The Manager of Professional Development ("MPD") plays an integral role in shaping the learning, development, onboarding, and training curriculum to foster an environment of learning, leadership development, and employee excellence. The Manager of Professional Development will report directly to the Director of Professional Development and will join a dynamic team and interact regularly with attorneys, directors, managers, and other business services personnel across multiple departments and locations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage the planning, organization and delivery of attorney milestone academies, NITA training programs and other legal skills training initiatives in collaboration with the Professional Development team;
  • Develop and maintaining the Fried Frank Online University, a series of supplemental online quick training resources, for both attorneys and business services professionals;
  • Assist with the annual performance evaluation and review processes for attorneys and business services;
  • Design and conduct skills training for attorneys at various levels and in connection with annual review process;
  • Conduct lateral attorney hire orientation sessions;
  • Support attorney mentor program process;
  • Work with practice group leaders to design and rollout competencies and milestones for attorneys;
  • Conduct training for attorneys and business services professionals;
  • Assist the Professional Development Coordinator in monitoring and managing attorney CLE training processes and requirements together with the PD Coordinator;
  • Assist with monitoring annual and monthly department budget;
  • Work on special projects related to firm professional development activities;
  • Learn and stay abreast of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to meet the educational needs of the various functions/jobs within the Firm and bring forward suggestions for enhancements for current firm offerings;
  • Monitor American Lawyer, Above the Law and other popular sites for relevant Firm and industry news;
  • Work collaboratively with the PD to enhance the department's profile both internally and externally; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 3 or more years of related experience working in a Training and Development and/or talent management function within a professional setting. Experience working in law firm environment is preferred. Experience with adult learning and curriculum design is strongly preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Must be detail oriented and produce work product with a high degree of accuracy. Must exhibit strong written and oral communication skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to act in a professional manner at all times. Exhibits strong organizational skills and demonstrates the ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments effectively. Ability to work effectively under pressure with interruptions and tight deadlines. Ability to use independent judgment, problem solve, take initiative, and follow through. Ability to get work done through others. Ability to work positively with a wide variety of audiences and personality types, including partners, attorneys, directors, managers, supervisors, and administrative staff. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, internet research, and database skills required. Knowledge of learning management systems, Micron CE Manager, and viEval a plus.

The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

New York Salary Range

$160,000-$175,000 USD
