DescriptionStantec is seeking an Environmental Planner to join our Environmental Services Practice working within our power utility sector in the Northern California region. The position is to be based out of our Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Sacramento, Petaluma, Rocklin, Chico, San Jose, or Fresno Office; geographic alignment with other Stantec offices will be considered based on experience. Stantec offers flexible work locations (including working from home), flexible work hours and a robust compensation and benefits package.Your Key ResponsibilitiesAs an Environmental Planner, you will provide land use planning knowledge to support environmental review needs for public and private projects on utility programs. Task duties may include environmental permitting, technical study support for siting and licensing of other energy production and transmission projects, environmental impact analysis support, coordination on biological and cultural assessment support, CEQA support, municipal zoning ordinance review, and land use planning and coordination for environmental projects. Experience with the review and development of project descriptions/scope of work, familiarity with utility environmental review process and permitting assessment process, and a general understanding of local municipal planning and/or biological resource constraints within the Northern California region is required.
As an Environmental Planner, you will support multi-disciplinary project/program teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of utility operations and maintenance projects.
This position requires attention to details, strong skills as a self-starter, and an ability to participate in multiple projects simultaneously, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience within electric and/or gas utility projects is preferred. Proficiency with MS Excel is a plus. Understanding preparation of the release to construction (RTC) process for clients and ability to direct and work with multiple disciplines is preferred. This role will also include support to project management teams on dynamic projects.
QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsRequired:3 years of experience performing environmental planning and permitting work for California IOUs.
5 years of experience performing linear facility (i.e., utility or transportation) environmental planning and permitting work.
Strong research, analysis and reporting abilities.
Focused on detail-orientation skills and capable of managing large data sets.
Are self-starting, team-oriented professional with excellent written and communication skills.
Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
Experience with permitting and CEQA.
Provide support in delivering high quality work products to Stantec’s multi-disciplinary project teams.
A valid California driver’s license is required.
Preferred:NEPA experience a plus.
CWA 404/401 permitting a plus.
CPUC experience a plus.
CEC experience a plus.
Ability to identify opportunities and build relationships with clients.
Education and ExperienceBasic: BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or a related field. 5-8 years of experience.Preferred: Master’s degree in Biology, Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or a related field.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Work from home can be accommodated.
