The CRA & Fair Banking Senior Advisor is primarily responsible for second line of defense oversight and monitoring of CRA risks throughout AUB, as well as review of the CRA Policy and its implementation of the CRA Program. Specifically, this role will assist in the design and execution of oversight and monitoring to evaluate AUB's CRA compliance assurance with respect to the accuracy of AUB's CRA regulatory reporting data. Additionally, this position will act as an adjunct Fair Banking advisor, assessing fair banking risk within the AUB Lines of Business ("LOBs"). These duties may include advising LOBs on fair banking risks, managing and performing fair banking risk assessments, and consulting with business units to ensure they develop/maintain adequate controls to mitigate the risk appropriately and complying with applicable state and federal laws/regulations. The CRA Oversight and Fair Banking Senior Advisor will also provide strategic regulatory guidance to LOBs and routinely communicate with senior leadership.

Position Accountabilities

CRA Oversight & Monitoring:

  • Provide an independent Second Line of Defense approach to oversee CRA risk-based monitoring and evaluation by independently assessing risks and issues.
  • Develop a bank-wide approach to monitoring and reporting of CRA-related compliance risks.
  • Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to analyze, quantify, and/or assess CRA risks and to evaluate controls to identify potential weaknesses and/or control gaps.
  • Remain current on developments in applicable laws, rules, standards, guidelines, and industry best practices related to CRA compliance and overall CRA program administration.
  • Assist with supporting the LOB on CRA-related regulatory exam and internal audit activities.
  • Clearly document and communicate the results from any CRA testing and monitoring performed and provide heightened around significant risks and proactive identification, escalation, and remediation of control weaknesses or gaps.
  • Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with management, other internal clients and peers, and Audit.


As Needed/Assigned:

  • Engage as Fair Banking primary point of contact to 1LOD line of business unit, offering advice and guidance on the identification and remediation of regulatory risks and to serve as a credible effective challenge to the 1LOD.
  • Schedule, manage, and perform fair banking risk assessments to assess performance, risks, internal controls and adherence to regulatory requirements for supported LOBs.
  • Interpret, perform, and provide research on fair banking and regulatory questions impacting the bank's operations and performance.
  • Identify risks, root cause, control weaknesses or gaps through fair banking risk assessments and work with LOB management to correct deficiencies.
  • Effectively communicate results of fair banking risk assessments and related recommendations to 1LOD and 2LOD leadership.
  • Partner with LOB Compliance Advisors and Horizontal Compliance programs to drive awareness on 1LOD performance on CMP related elements, including recommendations on improvements needed.
  • Assist in development, documentation and deployment of Fair Banking Risk Assessment process.
  • Assist in development, documentation and deployment of Fair Banking Review of Innovation and Change (FaBRIC) risk review process, and support ongoing activities related to it.
  • Review, update and create (when necessary) relevant fair banking owned policies and procedures to ensure appropriate Fair Banking oversight for supported LOBs.
  • Provide fair banking oversight of supported LOBs and participate in the development and implementation of new products, processes and initiatives within the 1LOD.


As Needed/Assigned:

  • Escalate and report any potential violations of law or regulations to 2LOD leadership.
  • Work with Fair Banking Officer to maintain, enforce, and strengthen Atlantic Union's Fair Banking Program.
  • Engage with other Fair Banking and Compliance teammates and Enterprise Risk Teammates to ensure complete risk identification and remediation plans.
  • Stay abreast of changes to federal and state banking laws and regulations affecting product offerings and areas of operations at Atlantic Union; inform management of impacts of changes.
  • Assist with research, dissemination and implementation of new and updated regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations governing bank functions, including compliance with Atlantic Union Compliance Program and associated policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development, review, publishing and delivery of fair banking related training materials.
  • Obtain necessary training to keep current on regulatory fair banking, compliance and bank functions.
  • Assist Fair banking Officer with coordination and preparation for Regulatory exam; support 1LOD in meeting deliverables for audits and exams with fair banking impacts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Fair and Responsible Banking Officer.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3 to 5+ years of CRA Compliance Program administration or Compliance experience with strong knowledge of applicable regulations, and a strong focus on risks and controls.
  • 1+ years of experience with Fair Lending advisory or program administration.
  • Experience with CRA/HMDA and Fair Lending software a plus.
  • Certification as a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) preferred


Knowledge & Skills

  • Analytical skills, particularly with trending and reporting
  • Knowledge of internal controls, risk assessments, and compliance testing and monitoring processes (including analytics), and applicable techniques for implementation of regulatory compliance requirements and compliance processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state banking laws and regulations, with specialized knowledge related to CRA, ECOA, FHA and UDAP/UDAAP.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Compliance Management and Regulatory Best Practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Well organized with attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Working knowledge of banking software programs preferred


Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
