A Brief OverviewThe Chemist function is to work in a cGMP regulated environment manufacturing active pharmaceutical products (APIs) as well as performing related activities at Bachem.What you will doInstall, operate and maintain equipment for manufacturing and in-process testing. The equipment includes but not limited to analytical HPLC/UPLC, prep. HPLC systems, lyophilizes, balances, reactors, HF cleavage equipment, diafiltration systems, water purification systems, ovens, washing systems and others used in manufacturePerform solid phase and liquid phase synthesis, deprotect and cleave the API from the resin using chemical cocktails, containing HF, TFA, ammonium hydroxide or other chemicalsPerform purification process by chromatography, crystallization and other techniquesFollow approved GMP manufacture directions such as Master Batch Records, Standard Operation Procedures, Standard Test Procedures and other procedures to manufacture GMP materials, perform in-process test, package the product including other related activitiesPerform project-planning and initiate raw material order-request. Receive raw materials, coordinate with QA/QC and Material Management for material release and monitor raw material inventoriesFollow and maintain GMP Documentation System. Investigate in deviations and write process deviation reports. Initiate document change request. Assist quality control and assurance unit to maintain equipment calibration programRoutinely maintain/organize work areas (hood, bench, floor, wall, etc.) and other designated areas at the manufacturing facilityWrite and improve Standard Operation Procedures (SOP), Standard Test Procedures (STM), Master Batch Records (MBPR) and other related GMP documentsFollow SOPs and approved directions to clean equipment used in GMP processes, maintain cleaning log for each equipment, assist in equipment calibration program, and dispose chemical waste generated in the manufactureMonitor compliance of maintenance and cleaning procedures of equipment and instruments used in GMP processes by periodically reviewing and signing off on maintenance and cleaning log for each equipmentTakeover housekeeping ownership of production equipment and roomsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in chemistry or related scientific field or10+ years technician / industrial equipment experience in lieu of degree0-2 years’ experience with Bachelor’s degreeGeneral lab instrument (e.g. HPLC, UV Spectrometry) knowledge and operation experience (preferred)Experienced in GMP manufacturing as well as basic knowledge of cGMP and FDA regulations (preferred)Experience in the manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides (preferred)Capable following GMP guidelines and housekeeping rulesExcellent written and oral communication skillsCommunicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environmentAbility to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping direct supervisor aware of potential issues.Flexibility of working hours based on business needs, may include some nights and occasional weekendsAbility to work independently and manage one’s timeAbility to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environmentDetail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problemsBasic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointKnowledge of HPLC/UPLC and basic chromatographyWork with hazardous materials and chemicalsOur people are passionate about what they do, the product they sell, and the customers they serve.
