Overview:

The Registered Nurse Quality Data Analyst facilitates quality assessment and improvement activities for the medical staff and health system quality initiatives. The Data Analyst performs an assessment of data based on established criteria and participates at the organizational level in quality improvement initiatives. The Data Analyst reviews the electronic medical record, or reports generated from it, and uses critical thinking skills to collect information related to established specifications. The Data Analyst also helps in analyzing opportunities for electronic data capture and reporting. Must be able to understand workflow and clinical documentation in relation to data collected. The data analyst is a system advocate who deals with confidential information, coordinates data collection efforts and utilizes multiple databases to make needed information available to internal and external customers. May need to work overtime and/or flexible hours including weekends. Performs other duties as assigned.Responsibilities:Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReviews established criteria for data abstraction and understands how individual data elements relate to measures and outcomesIdentifies patients for inclusion in appropriate measuresUtilizes a variety of software applications for data collection and analysisResponsible for the accurate and timely entry of data into softwareDemonstrates reliability of data definitions and participates in data validation and inter-rater reliability testingUnderstands workflow and clinical documentation in relation to data collectedWorks with multiple departments to identify opportunities for improvement

Education and ExperienceGraduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN or upon hire BSN completion agreement for enrollment in an accredited BSN Completion Program. If hired prior to 1-1-17 in Winnebago county and 9-1-14 in Rock, Walworth and McHenry County an ADN is required. May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines) Five years of progressive experience in an acute care setting required. Experience with Epic electronic medical record and documentation workflow preferred. Basic computer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word preferred.

Certification and LicensureLicensed as an RN in state of practice required.Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality preferred.

Skills and AbilitiesMay include color blind test (per department guidelines)Computer skills: Experience using the electronic medical record, internet and spreadsheet software is required.Reasoning ability: Ability to reason and deal with a variety of abstraction and concrete variables. This includes the ability to complete basic mathematical equations to calculate percentages and rates.Communication: Ability to read, analyze and interpret guidelines and effectively present information and respond to questions from multiple customersSpecial Physical DemandsThe Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
