General Summary/ Overview Statement:The Patient Business Representative (PBR) functions as a financial counselor and registrar, responsible for the evaluation of financial history for uninsured and underinsured patients to determine eligibility for financial assistance programs. The PBR serves as the primary contact for patients requiring help with billing/financial issues. They must have a strong understanding of billing/revenue cycles, managed care requirements, coding, and compliance.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Screen patients for MassHealth, CarePlus, Connector Care, Health Safety Net, and assist in the application process.Assist patients in applying for various financial assistance programs and insurance plans.Act as a liaison between patients, billing departments, and billing agencies.Accept payments, counsel patients on available discounts, and resolve billing inquiries.Investigate and resolve billing and coding issues, manage patient accounts, and maintain workflow records.Assist in the registration process and updates when necessary.Work on special projects and cover other services/locations when required.Qualifications:Certified Applications Counselor (CAC) requiredPrior experience with financial assistance or Government programs preferredKnowledge of medical terminologyFamiliarity with hospital legacy systems, Microsoft Office, and Share Point preferredExcellent customer service, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and interact effectively within the organizationSkills/Abilities/Competencies Required:Excellent customer service, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and interact effectively within the organization
