Faculty Veterinarian - Large Animal Medicine and Surgery Focus

Requisition #: A-148568-4 Status: Full Time Type: Faculty School: School of Medicine Department/Program: Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology Johns Hopkins University's Research Animal Resources (RAR) has a position available for a veterinarian with a faculty appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor (commensurate with experience) in the Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The RAR large animal medicine and surgery program provides medical, anesthetic, and surgical support and expertise to a variety of animal studies. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide clinical and surgical oversight for large animals including nonhuman primates (macaques, baboons, and marmosets), swine, dogs, cats, and sheep Manage busy operating rooms (OR) with diagnostic capabilities Conduct medical and experimental surgeries (e.g., vasectomy, Caesarean section, splenectomy, liver biopsy, and implantation of vascular access ports) Provide surgical support for experimental studies Provide post-op care and management for large animals Supervise the surgery tech team Perform anesthesia and anesthesia monitoring Mentor LAM post-doctoral fellows in large animal medicine and surgery Participate in regulatory activities, including as a member of the JHU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Train researchers and veterinary/husbandry personnel Conduct clinical and collaborative research Consult with investigators regarding research protocols Work with husbandry personnel regarding proper care of large animals Develop and manage related SOPs and guidelines Qualifications

Education:

Doctoral degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) in Veterinary Medicine Experience:

At least 2 years related experience Licensure:

Current license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state in the United States; current driver's license Certification:

Either in Veterinary Surgery or Laboratory Animal Medicine Additional qualifications

: Excellent oral and written capabilities; a thorough knowledge of current US regulatory standards; strong teaching skills; ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, including scientists; a demonstrated ability to conduct clinical or collaborative research; a record of great customer service; ability to seek out, build, and maintain positive collaborative relationships with investigators Application Instructions
