Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Faculty - Mathematics/Statistics, Temporary, Time Varies, Faculty - Natural Sciences, On-site (work in-person at business location)Position DescriptionThe Science, Mathematics, and Technology Coordinator at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments.Teaching the Science, Mathematics, and Technology provides world-class academic excellence - across the STEM field - by engaging a diverse student body and faculty in a dynamic learning environment. We offer two courses: 1. the history of how science and math influenced technology in today's modern global world and society and 2. the understanding of the vast region wonders of space in cosmology. Courses in the integrative studies in the Natural Sciences and Technology are interdisciplinary courses that build upon the knowledge students have acquired by completing their lower division GE coursework in the natural sciences and technology. While these courses will include content from disciplines outside the natural sciences and technology, their primary focus is on the integration of knowledge within the natural sciences and technology.At the end, students who complete the requirements for Integrative Studies in the Natural Sciences will be able to:Discuss the relationship of science to humanity through inquiry into: the origin of scientific discovery, the implications and consequences of scientific and technological development, and the impact of natural processes on the works of people as well as on its result: artifactDescribe some of the major effects that science and technology have had on societiesDiscuss the interdisciplinary approaches to methods, processes, effects, terminology, and major concepts of science and technologyDescribe and discuss ethical and legal concepts and issues related to science and technology, the concept of intellectual property, and its protectionThe temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.ResponsibilitiesTeach assigned upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on the assigned teaching unit load. These courses meet the general education (GE) requirement of Area B5: Integrative Studies in the Natural Science.QualificationsRequired QualificationsA Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related course disciplinePreference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teachingApplicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgroundsPreferred QualificationsA Master’s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experienceA Ph.D. and prior college-level teaching experience and relevant industry experience are required for teaching upper-division core courses (300- or 400-level)

For SMT310 course – qualified candidate degree can be in either Chemistry, Physics, or Earth ScienceFor SMT314 course – Cosmology, qualified candidate degree must be in Physics and/or Astronomy

Employment RequirementsSatisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.Additional InformationInitial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
