General Purpose of PositionThe Graphic Designer is responsible for overseeing compelling, effective design projects, and for creating and producing digital and print assets, such as motion graphics, social media graphics, GIFs, brochures, email banners, templates, booklets, postcards, ads, environmental branding, signage, and maps for strategic communications projects. They have expertise in graphic design, layout techniques, and marketing execution taking projects from concept to delivery. To be successful in this position, the Graphic Designer must be creative, detail-oriented, collaborative, and open to new challenges, and possess strong communication skills, and a commitment to high-quality work.Essential FunctionsLead Digital and Print StrategyPlay a key role in maintaining a cohesive visual brand identity across Lewis & Clark’s three schools that aligns with the institution’s mission, vision, values, and strategic frameworkStay updated on industry trends in higher education including the latest design trends, techniques and best practicesWork collaboratively with communications team members and partners throughout the institution to conceptualize creative solutions for strategic projects, develop new ideas, and ensure high-quality outcomesConceptualize and design digital and print design assets for strategic communications projects initiated by the Comms team and for partners around the institution, including email campaigns, social media graphics, environmental branding, brochures, and moreCreate original designs and identity systems for special projects and marketing campaignsCreate graphic images including illustrations, infographics, motion graphics, GIFs, and icons.Assure that digital and print materials reflect the institution’s brand, messaging, and toneEnsure that designs meet digital accessibility standards and comply with print production processes and specifications.Prepare print material specifications for vendors: obtain bids, prepare and deliver print-ready files, approve proofs, etc.Utilize project management systems and tools to collaborate with teammates and to deliver projects on time and to specifications.Coordinate with our partner in Watzek Library to maintain our proprietary digital asset management tool, PubcomDACreate and maintain database of digital design assets, files, and templates for faculty, staff, and studentsManage and archive project files and other digital assets in our shared Google DrivesSupervise Freelance and Student SupportCoordinate and manage the work of vendors to successfully complete projectsHire and provide art direction to freelance photographers, illustrators, and print and web designers, as neededSupervise student workers in charge of processing, tagging, and uploading images to our proprietary digital asset management tool, PubcomDASupport Departmental ObjectivesSuggest strategies for process improvementsDevelop and maintain documentation and standardsSupport change management processes within the departmentTrain new and existing employees on systems and processesProvide support and advice on cross-functional projectsParticipate in team meetings; provide knowledge, support, and advice for interdepartmental process improvements, projects, or policy revisionsRequired Skills and QualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience3+ years of related experienceOnline portfolio that demonstrates high-quality digital and print design work in commercial or graphic art, including experience shaping visual identity and brand identityAdvanced experience in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and the Google SuiteExperience in video and motion graphic design using Adobe Premiere and After EffectsExperience managing complex and highly visible print jobsWorking knowledge of content management systems and CRMsWorking knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)Strong understanding of design principles, color theory, and typographyProficient writing and documentation experience with demonstrated success in strategic messagingProficient understanding of the financial and business acumen to drive profitabilityProficient presentation and public speakingProficient interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skillsAbility to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentialityCommitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplaceSuperior time management skills with a proven ability to efficiently manage multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive projects and prioritiesSuperior problem-solving abilities to meet ambiguous and multicultural needsExtremely organized with meticulous attention to detailPreferred Skills and Qualifications5+ years of relevant experienceExpert knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)Familiarity with the Slate CRM system for Admissions and AdvancementPhotography skills and experienceExperience in higher education marketingUnderstanding of the liberal arts education modelWork ScheduleFull Time37.5 hours/weekRegular office hoursBenefits Eligible: YesPhysical RequirementsGeneral office environmentProlonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computerCommunicate effectively via phone, email, online meetings, and in personMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at timesCompensation$60,000 with consideration for experience
